Eugeniu Carada (1836-1910), a discreet but remarkable personality of Romanian modern history, is unanimously considered to be the founder of the National Bank of Romania. An extraordinary spirit, he was concerned to extend the activity of the bank in the territory, to develop and diversify the bank operations in order to increase the economic development of Romania.
After the foundation of the NBR, Eugeniu Carada directly got involved in the organisation of the printing activity by purchasing and sending equipment and necessary banknote printing materials in Bucharest. Therefore, in 1881, the Printing house starts its activity by printing the 20 lei banknote.
